Virus Exposure Profile Blood Test

* This is not a home test kit. You will need to visit a local lab for testing.

The Purpose of a Virus Exposure Blood Test

We have all been there. You feel like you’ve come down with some sort of bug, but you’re not sure what it is. What you do know is that you have uncomfortable symptoms such as fatigue, fever, muscle pain, and swollen lymph nodes, and you want to find a solution that can help you feel better fast. A virus exposure profile test can help pinpoint specific types of infections so you can get the proper treatment. It’s one of several infectious disease tests you can find at Personalabs.

Quest
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antibodies, IgG (403)
Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antibodies, Quantitative, IgM (8503)
Epstein Barr, Acute Infection (Mono) (6421)
Herpesvirus 6 Antibodies (IgG, IgM) (34282)

What Does the Virus Exposure Profile Test Measure?

The viral blood test looks for antibodies that your immune system produces if the following viruses enter your system:

  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antibodies, IgG
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV) Antibodies, Quantitative, IgM
  • Epstein-Barr, Acute Infection (Mono)
  • Herpesvirus 6 Antibodies (IgG, IgM)

Epstein-Barr is the most common cause of mononucleosis. Herpesvirus 6 and cytomegalovirus are both herpes viruses. All of these viruses are highly transmissible.

Who Should Take a Virus Blood Test?

You should get a virus exposure test if you’re experiencing the symptoms mentioned above, as well as:

  • Sore throat
  • Swollen tonsils
  • Headache
  • Skin rash
  • A soft, swollen area by your spleen

Viral Blood Test Preparation

There are no special instructions you need to follow before this virus blood test.

Virus Exposure Test Results

If you get a positive result, it means your body has produced antibodies in response to one of the viruses being tested. If that’s the case, you will want to seek further medical treatment to alleviate any symptoms. If you wish to speak with a board-certified doctor about your results, we can help you schedule a telehealth appointment with one of our physicians.
